Located in Norwalk off Route 1 at 47 Richards Ave., work has already begun on the unique parking structure for shoppers.

"We’ve started construction on the parking garage, and we aim to begin construction of the food market foundations this spring," said Wegmans spokeswoman Marcie Rivera.

Rivera said the company anticipates opening in 2025, though an exact date hasn't been identified.

"The store will be approximately 92,000 square feet on two stories and will have all of our normal departments, including our vast selection of restaurant foods options," Rivera added.

In addition to the market, Rivera said the store is unique from other Wegmans locations in that it will include a two-story parking deck, solar panels on top of the roof and the parking deck, and Tesla charging stations.

The company has more than 100 stores on the East Coast, but none in Connecticut until now.

A typical store employs between 400 to 500 people.
